Brackla Community Council was formed by dividing the Brackla area from
Bridgend Town Council in the early 1980's at a time when the estate was
growing at a very rapid rate. Click the small map, or the link above
for a large map of the area.
Currently, there are approaching
5000 houses in Brackla including about 4000 plus owner occupiers and
the balance being rented properties.
There are about 7800
electors and we estimate a total of something like 12,000 people
including children This growth has moderated of recent years as the
availability of development land has diminished, although building
still continues at the eastern side of Channel View and in the area of
Badgers' Mead at The Meadows.
The area is now reasonably well
serviced, with six schools including both English and Welsh language
primary schools, three pubs, a doctor, dentist and vet, a fitness
centre and a well serviced shopping centre providing a range of retail
outlets including some tasty take away facilities.
We have recreational facilities of both rugby and soccer pitches, a heavily
used community centre, a progressive Residents Association, a Family
Centre managed by NCH Action for Children.
The churches are well represented by Brackla Tabernacle Church, Brackla Baptist Church, Church in Wales, Jehovah's Witnesses, Roman Catholic Church, Brackla Evangelical Church, all meeting regularly in Brackla. All are well
attended and are deeply involved in community activities.
Many other interests are represented at Brackla including several groups of Scouts, Guides, Rainbows, Cub Scouts and so forth.
